Painted this one from a photo reference. I learned a lot about editing out unnecessary detail – the background had a lot more going on, but I just kept painting sky until I liked the composition. Flowers are an excellent subject for learning how not to paint. It is so easy to give in to your internal representation of “petal”, instead of painting what you see: shapes of color.
