Bottle Caps
Modeled and rendered in Luxology's modo. Turned out to be a cool promotional image, as it incorporates my business logo (from Illustrator) into the design. Inset shows the simple geometry underlying the scene. Update: this image was selected for inclusion in the modo gallery and featured in Luxology's monthly newsletter.

Alien Starfish
Good example of the kind of surface effects and materials that are possible. Plus, it's just really fun to create at the cusp of real and unreal.
-
Plane Trio
These objects were modeled in FormZ, then imported into modo for rendering. Demonstrates how easy it is to get mathematically robust CAD data out of one program and into another for visualization purposes.
-
Exocubic Brewing 3 Dimensions Ale
Modeled and rendered in modo, with label design imported from Illustrator. Liquid-inside-glass renders are notoriously difficult - but modo makes it (somewhat) easy.
-
Spindles Metallic
Complex lathed shapes with a mathematically created material - no image maps were used (nor harmed) in the making of this image.
-
Spindles-Sunny
Same objects as the previous image, just different lighting. This is one area where computer generated imagery really shines - the ability to quickly and painlessly (read inexpensively) alter materials, lighting, and placement for composition tests and proofing.
-
Spindles with Depth of Field
Again, the same spindles, but this time showcasing the ability to simulate real-world camera effects like depth of field.
-
Splashy 3d Text in Milk
Interesting stop-motion effects are a piece of cake inside the computer, and much less messy. I find the most fascinating aspect of CG to be the ability to extend beyond the limits of reality, while still remaining oddly believable.
-
3d Splashy Text Redux
Identical material and geometry as above, just a different camera angle.
-
3d Text in Metal
Another view of the previous model, with a metallic material applied.
-
Hex Pattern
Playing around with simple geometry, trying to get a more "graphic", hard-edged feel. I have an odd fetish for hexagons.
-
Modo Mugs
This is actually an image created by following a beginner's tutorial that comes with modo. They (Luxology) have such a cool logo, I couldn't resist.
-
Fresno Bloom
This image was produced for a public art proposal - that I didn't get. Modeled in Rhino and rendered in Maxwell - oh, yeah: in addition to modo, I also have licensed Maxwell Render, FormZ, SolidWorks, Rhino, Vectorworks, ZBrush, and the Adobe Creative Suite. What that means is I can read, translate, and export just about any file format you can possibly imagine.
-
Power
This was created for another public art proposal - this one I did manage to win. Modeled in FormZ and rendered in Maxwell. The model was subsequently used to created construction documents, laser cutting tool paths, and engineering data - all in-house. The finished piece was done in powder coated steel, 25 feet tall.
-
Water
See "Power" above for a description.

Meme
This is Maxwell render of geometry modeled in FormZ. This image illustrates the power of digital prototyping: I was able to visualize materials and sculptural form prior to outlaying any capital for fabrication. See here to check out the finished piece in stainless steel.
-
Mockingbird Awning
Another visualization to evaluate a sculptural design prior to fabrication. The modeled geometry (in SolidWorks) was subsequently used to drive the patterns involved in constructing the piece. Rendered using SolidWorks built-in Photoview 360 - which is a simplified version of modo by Luxology.
-
Skatepark Entry
Image created for a proposed artwork for a skateboard park in California. Another Photoview 360 render.
-
Hexvortex
Illustrator pattern, deformed and pulled into Vectorworks for cleaning up. Clean-up is necessary on complex geometry like this in order for it to be used by laser- and waterjet-cutting machinery.

-
Devotchka Star
Concept graphic for Denver band DeVotchka.
-
Tower of Bloops
Playing around with an odd little program called Groboto. Imported into modo for rendering.
-
Warped Star
Early modo experiment, exploring how light effects thick glass materials.
-
Visitor
LOL.
-
ZBrush Wasp
Digital sculpting experiment in ZBrush.
